Hackers are people who break into
Network systems in an attempt to steal confidential data and or misuse your
system.
Hackers attacked some of Americas most popular Web sites in the past, walling
off frustrated consumers from companies that provide news and stock trading. The
attackers blocked Web sites such as Yahoo, eBay, Amazon,
CNN.com, and Buy.com.
Hackers are often intrigued
by the challenge of
simply breaking into a server. Ideally, they want
to create a back door, undetected, that will enable them to leave
behind a program to sniff out and
collect passwords
(Administrator is preferred) for
later collection, or
permit them to revisit the server so they can use it
to launch
an attack on another server.
Over the past 12 years, the
growth of incidents
reported has roughly paralleled the Internet growth.
As e-commerce sites become attractive targets and
the emphasis turns from break-ins to denials of
service (DoS), the situation
will likely worsen. |
